First Parliament of the D.S.R. of Sri Lanka

First Parliament came into being on the promulgation of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on 7 September 1978 whereby the National State Assembly was superseded by Parliament.

By the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution which was approved by the People at a Referendum on 22 December 1982 the duration of the First Parliament was extended until 4 August 1989. But was dissolved on 20 December 1988, the day following the Second Presidential Election.
